Denis Istomin from Uzbekistan will play against American Jenson Brooksby in the 1/8 finals of the challenger in Columbus.
Jenson Brooksby
Last night in the 1/16 finals, 21-year-old Brooksby played a difficult match against his compatriot Mitchell Kruger. We expected that Brooksby would have a lot of problems, but it was his first official match in the new season. Nevertheless, Brooksby was able to show character and win a strong-willed victory in three sets – 2:6; 6:3; 7:5.
Denis Istomin
35-year-old Istomin, in turn, made a small sensation last night and beat Sebastian Fanzelov from Germany in three sets. Both tennis players are not particularly distinguished by a stable game, and therefore this victory should not really please Denis yet. The tennis player from Uzbekistan won the first set with two breaks, but at the same time he once gave a game on his serve – 7:5. In the second game, Istomin began to make many mistakes and eventually lost the set with a score of 1:6. At the same time, Denis allowed Fanzelov to make as many as three breaks. In the third set, Istomin was able to quickly make a break and, having led 3:1, did not let go of his advantage. As a result, Denis will win the decisive set with a score of 6:4.
Forecast
Considering that Jenson Brooksby is still a tennis player of a different level for Istomin, and Denis himself rarely shows a stable game on hard, we believe that nothing should prevent the American from achieving a victory in two sets.
